JERSEY CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGE

2019 K-2 SUBMISSIONS

For the 2019 Sustainability STEAM Challenge, Kindergarten through 2nd grade students learned about the City’s bag ban and created their own reusable bags and/or reusable bag designs. One design was chosen to be featured on a reusable bag that was distributed to the public to be seen and used throughout the city! Over fifty student designs were narrowed down to 12 finalists. Members of the public were asked to vote on their favorite design among the 12 finalists. The design with the most votes was featured on the free, reusable bags provided by Goldman Sachs — the Arts, Education, and Engagement sponsor of the initiative. Two thousand bags were distributed to the public in June at Bagapalooza! and other events.

The winning design by PS25’s Akshita Singh was printed on reusable bags that were given out to the community.

All of the K-2 semifinalists were recognized at City Hall on June 14, 2019.
